Soccer Hooligans in Africa?
If you are a soccer fan then you are familiar with soccer hooligans that appear at every match !
The behavior of soccer hooligans has been well-documented in Europe. These are the people who typically keep a low profile during games in order to watch their favorite team. But at the end of the day, these are the people who are the most disorderly. It is a common sight to see two groups of hooligans slugging it out in the parking lot of the stadium after a game. It doesn’t end there, though. Fighting may be one of the most common things that these people do, but there are other things as well such as berating, stealing and basically almost every disorderly conduct there is.
Soccer hooligans are responsible for most of the troubles that appear at soccer matches !
In South Africa, soccer hooligans weren’t absent. As a matter of fact, they were expected by the government as they have set up more than fifty courts to try football-related offenses during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. One example of this comes from a news article posted by DeFootballWorld.com. A Nigerian native was caught and tried for stealing about thirty tickets to the World Cup games. He could have made a huge profit out of these tickets.
The Special World Cup Court in South Africa tried the case of the Nigerian man and he was sentenced to three years in prison. He was caught by the police due to his suspicious actions and movements. After seeing enough, they decided to stop and thoroughly search the man. Then and there, they found almost 30 tickets to the World Cup. It isn’t in any way illegal to have a lot of tickets to the game; but after failing to explain why he has so much, it became clear that something was wrong. This is but one case of soccer hooligans during the 2010 World Cup. Although it seems small, it could lead to an even bigger problem.
Investigation on how, when and where the man got the tickets shows that they were purchased from an unknown address on the Internet and not from the official website of FIFA.com. In other words, the man was carrying around fake tickets in his pocket. Whether he bought those tickets with the intention of using them himself without knowing they were fakes or he was going to sell those remain unclear. Nevertheless, the Special World Cup Court decided to sentence the man to three years in prison.
These soccer hooligans appear all around the globe not just in Europe !
Although not as prevalent as in Europe, there are soccer hooligans in other parts of the world. Being the most popular sport around the globe, these people are bound to appear everywhere. Whether starting fights, causing riots, burning cars, stealing other people’s money or tickets, or selling fake tickets, these people can be found in almost every football game. It is best to be safe and be informed about these people instead of simply praying that you do not just become another victim.
